how you can stay in a 1,000 year old castle in
AMBERLEY, ENGLAND
Amberley is the very definition of cute. You can find it in the Horsham District of East Sussex between Storrington, Chiltington and Arundel (which, by the way, are also SUPER cute too). It’s filled with many old buildings, thatched cottages, a castle, a church, two pubs and a quaint corner store.
One of the best things about Amberley is that it has a castle. And yeah, so what. Literally every village in England has a castle, what’s so special about this one? Well, apart from being drenched in history, you can stay, dine and even get married here. I was lucky enough to stay in Amberley castle for my birthday and it was just as amazing as I had imagined.

You can stay in the castle all year round. Prices range from £280 for a classic room to a whopping £660 for a premier king room. Bedrooms are resplendent with the luxurious facilities you would expect from a country house hotel. You are free to discover the tennis court, 18-hole putting green, the croquet lawn and tranquil gardens!
Whilst you can dine at Amberley Castle, we chose to grab some dinner at The Bridge Inn in the village. It’s only a few minutes drive, or maybe a fifteen-minute walk, from the castle, and definitely worth the venture. It’s a homely little country pub that serves real ales, good wines and hearty home cooked food. I ordered the soup of the day which, luckily for me, was pumpkin, and was a little pot of tummy warming magic. Check their menu out for yourself! When we finished, we rolled ourselves back to the castle and tucked ourselves in to sleep off our food comas.
Room prices at Amberley Castle are inclusive of breakfast in their beautiful dining room! It’s usually served in The Great Room which was built in 1165 by Bishop Luffa of Chichester. It’s a fine example of Norman architecture with its high lancet windows, open fireplace, oak flooring, tapestry and suits of armour. There’s a buffet of fresh fruits, cereals and juices freely available and you choose your freshly cooked hot breakfast choice from the menu. I was delivered the fanciest plate of scrambled eggs and smoked salmon I have ever seen, and it was delicious!
So, even though it sounds like we just ate while we were away, there’s heaps more to do around the area. With full tummies, we ventured out and around the village of Amberley, then to Arundel and Lewes. I’ll do a little post about what we did in Arundel soon and link it here for you.

Overall, I think Amberley Castle and its surrounding areas make for a perfect weekend getaway for those wanting to unwind and escape the city smog in London ... or just fancy pretending being a princess (or prince) in their very own castle ;)
